Sierra Leone To Play Cote D’Ivoire in Lagos [DETAILS]

The National Football Federation has given permission to Sierra Leone to play Cote D’Ivoire in Lagos, on Sunday, 6 September 2015.

The match is for the African Cup of Nations 2017 qualifiers, which should have been played in Sierra Leone if not for the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak the country suffered. Sierra Leone has not yet been certified safe by the World Health Organisation (WHO) even though there are no recent reported cases. As such, the Leone Stars have not been playing their international matches outside the country – for example, they played their 2014 World Cup Qualifier in Abidjan.

The National Football Federation also gave the Sierra Leone Football Assosciation the option of playing their match in Port Harcourt as well, if they so choose.

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick revealed on Tuesday,

“I can confirm to you that Sierra Leone have requested to play their AFCON qualifiers in our country. And we have taken the request to the ministry of health who have given their blessings that the Leone Stars are free to come and play in Nigeria.

“We have offered the Lagos or Port Harcourt to play their matches, so It’s up to them to choose where they would prefer.”
